Sonamarg, Feb (KNO): After a prolonged dry spell, the popular tourist destination of Sonamarg in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district was graced with a stunning one-foot layer of fresh snowfall on Saturday, marking the season's first snowfall. The sudden arrival of snow transformed Sonamarg into a mesmerizing winter wonderland, drawing delighted tourists from Kashmir and beyond. With the snow-covered landscape offering a perfect winter backdrop, visitors were seen engaging in snow play, enjoying thrilling sled rides, and capturing beautiful moments amidst the white-capped mountains. Tourists expressed their excitement as they soaked in the serene beauty of the region, with some even remarking that it felt like stepping into a dream. A family from Hyderabad, visiting Sonamarg for the first time, said, “It feels like a dream come true for us, arriving in Sonamarg today and witnessing the enchanting mountains adorned with a fresh layer of snow.” In addition to the snowfall, the inauguration of the Sonamarg Tunnel marked another milestone for the region. The tunnel’s opening has significantly eased access to Sonamarg, allowing tourists to reach the area more easily and enjoy the fresh snowfall. The Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA) has been working tirelessly to ensure that the influx of tourists is met with adequate facilities. Local authorities have been on their toes, setting up arrangements to accommodate visitors and enhance their experience in the region. "All roads now lead to Sonamarg, as visitors from across the country flock to the area, eager to enjoy the winter charm of the place. The combination of snowfall and improved access through the new tunnel has made Sonamarg an even more attractive destination for winter tourists," said an official. As Sonamarg continues to receive a surge in tourism, the local administration remains focused on ensuring smooth travel and optimal facilities for visitors, helping Sonamarg reclaim its spot as one of Kashmir’s most cherished winter retreats—(KNO)
